Bitter Biden in new Europe
October 20th, 2009 by martinehlSo, we have Joe Biden in Europe (today in Poland, Thursday in Romania and if it is Friday, it must be Prague). What to expect after midnight calls cancelling work of one generation of Czech and Polish politicians? Nothing special. We like you, you are doing a good job, fingers crossed. And, by the way, dont you wanna buy some used stuff like F-15 and F16? In today’s Financial Times Gideon Rachman makes a point: with Obama and economic crisis combined there is the end of small states and their shining on the world scene. We (small states) should learn againg how to fight in international arena for ourselves. We are used to that, being between Brussels and Gazprom. But bitterness prevails and clapping hands sound from Moscow, or from St. Petersburg, where Mr. Putin is being accompanied on his birthday party by some of European leaders, Mr. Schroder and Mr. Berlusconi in particular.
Twenty years after THE CHANGE the dream is over and realpolitik is back. Bye, bye Joe. I am going to spent the days you are in Prague in Berlin talking to my European and American friends at German Marshall Fund conference about the hardship of transatlantic relations in these days. It would be much better than to follow you, Bitter Biden. You are even not giving any press conference, so we can expect just plain talk. Like from your boss, whose empty words were awarded by Nobel Peace Prize.
